THE NATIONAL MONUMENT TO THE FOREFATHERS IN PLYMOUTH, Massachusetts was completed and dedicated in 1889, as a memorial to the Forefathers, in memory of their Christian faith, and in honor of their love and sacrifice. The American people and their political leaders from various states contributed the funds for the monument. Hammatt Billings, artist and scholar in both biblical and historic themes, designed the monument using biblical symbols and weaving them together with the Pilgrims’ story. This is the Forefather’s record in stone, in case future generations who did not know the Lord would rise up and forget what the American experiment in the wilderness was all about.
